Sound Insulation The exact number of people living in houses and flats with poor sound insulation is unknown, but it has been estimated that 2.5 million people live in badly insulated homes. Poor sound insulation can cause real problems. Low Frequency Noise & Infrasound Ever been driven crazy by the low hum of a generator, a pump or an air-conditioning system, or by deep bass music? Than you will know what it is like to be disturbed by low frequency noise. Facts about Noise Noise is often described as unwanted sound. The loudness of sounds are measured in decibels and the scale goes from 0 to 140 decibel (dB). The range was devised to fit in with our hearing threshold, but some people are able to hear below zero level. Traffic Noise Traffic noise accounts for 66% of the total noise generated outside dwellings in the UK, with 32 million people being exposed to high levels of noise (55—75 decibels). With traffic levels still going up, road noise will become an increasingly serious problem. Noise and Health |
